Is social media good for business?

You're in a customer facing business and need to know if Web2.0 services and Social Networks, such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, are right for you. To learn the answer, you can EITHER spend days doing your own online research and talk to inexperienced suppliers, friends and colleagues; OR you could come to our half day Social Media Briefing - which would be 3 hours well spent. It's your call.

The Agenda:

What – Answers the question “What is Social Media” (30 min)
Where – Showcases where Social Media is being used and where it should be used (30 min)
Why – Addresses the Return you should expect on your Investment (30 min)
Exercise Self completion exercise on “Using Social Media in my Company”, then break (30 min)
How – Demonstrates the tools, how to get started, engage users and measure results (1 hour)

In Detail:

What: Social Media is user generated content by a networked community of socially engaged individuals. It is Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Ning and hundreds more Web2.0 services. It is blogs, tweets and social bookmarks, photo and video sharing, comments walls and discussion groups, ratings, reviews and recommendations, status updates and activity feeds, mash-ups, widgets and RSS feeds; and it’s changing the way we organise our contacts and communicate. What is the theory bit and provides the platform for the following sessions.

Where: Social Media is being used across business operations from customer service provision, to product research, workgroup collaboration and viral marketing. It has effected the outcome of elections, engaged disaffected voters and raised millions in funds. It has given campaigners a new set of tools to confront injustice. It is being used to manage consultations, engage communities, and keep track of friends and families. In Where we demonstrate Social Media in action using local, recent and best of bred case studies from well known brands.

Why: Social Media delivers a real Return on your Investment in digital communications. In Why we look at the Return you can expect and the Investment required to achieve this.

Exercise: Drawing on the knowledge and case studies provided participants are asked to set out how their own business could use Social Media as a self completion exercise. Selected delegates will be invited to share their thoughts with the group after the break.

How: Provides a series of practical demonstrations. In How we’ll show you how to set up a Wordpress blog, a twitter account and a Facebook page, post your first items and recruit followers, as well as some of the more popular tools you can use to analyse the results.
